Inspired By Interior Design – Country Cottage Style

Many of you may not know that my first love was interior design. For years I always *knew* I’d end up an interior designer. A bachelor’s degree in architecture, an MBA and an infatuation with letterpress stationery later and we all know that’s not exactly what happened. However, my love for parties and weddings and great event design is deeply rooted in my passion for interiors and the built environment. To me, these passions are really all one and the same. To that end, I thought I’d switch it up today and share this gorgeous historic country cottage featured yesterday on Desire to Inspire.

Wondering how this translates to your wedding or next celebration? It’s all in the details really. This beautiful home is filled with objects loaded with personal style and meaning and uses a simple, consistent color palette that easily pulls it all together. The pairing of cream, white, red and pink throughout creates visual interest easily, without having to worry too much about things being perfectly matchy matchy. Apply this same idea when choosing your flowers, linens, attire, paper goods and accessories and it will work just as well when planning an event.

Look around at the things you love, the colors you surround yourself with in your home and your wardrobe and use them to inspire you. Then choose design elements that speak to you in some way to help pull it all together. Trust me when I say that planning a celebration does not have to be daunting – a few pretty details go a long long way.
